I ran across this tool today and found it interesting as the questions posed in the trailer are the same questions the emerging generations is asking. The key is how we as Christians go about communicating the answers to the questions to a world that is already skeptical.
Here are some tips as you begin planning for Easter.
I know I’m spinning the title phrase just a little, but I need to keep with the theme. Remember my previous video post…WELL…
I received a call from my buddy Steve today at 5:30 p.m. (PST) just after his meeting with his oncologist… AND…
NO CANCER!
Thursday a week ago Steve had a mass taken from under his arm that was cancerous. It had spread into his lymph system and the reports from the doctors were not good. After a week of tests and full body scans the report today was, “Jesus showed up”. The scans came back clean. Steve doesn’t have a trace of cancer any where else in his body. WOW…doing this anointing with oil, laying on of hands, and praying has jump started my spirit.
Thank you Jesus for hearing your children.
So where does Steve’s story affect you. You see, Steve and his wife Joni are the ones behind our ministry road trip this spring. The 32 motor coach that we are using to minister to your churches, is Steve’s. Amazing how God works, isn’t it.
So as we travel the road this spring serving churches across the country part of Steve’s miracle will be traveling with us. Just knowing of his willingness to serve others in the midst of trials is a testimony to his and Joni’s faith.
Thank you Steve and Joni for sharing your life with us. We are better for it.
And thank you In The Dirt family for being “better together”. The way you came together last night to anoint and pray over Steve and his family is a testimony to biblical community. It was church.
I wanted to share this short video clip with you about an experience I just had (January 9, 2008). My spirit was so moved by watching the church be the church. Not a building, not a facility … but the church. One of the things the emerging generation is looking at is for “the church” to do what their Jesus told them to do.
Here…watch this clip.

My Predictions for the next wave of the Church
By Tony Steward ⋅ January 7, 2008
As I look at the trends and the “edge” of what it feels like the church in America is moving towards I see one specific word used over and over again, but I think it has been missed by most of us - can you guess it?
I believe most are an attempt to express the larger initiative of TRANSFORMATION.
If you said, authentic, organic, emergent, missional, social justice, house church, vintage, etc. Then you would be wrong. And though I do see those trends occurring I believe most are an attempt to express the larger initiative of TRANSFORMATION.
We are at the point where the Church has finally stopped and taken a look back at the mega church movement over the past 30 - 40 years, and we are starting to see where adjustment is needed. During that time the church has gotten incredible at “packing the house” - and have produced amazing results and numbers. But what I believe our Emergent / Missional / Vintage Faith friends have sensed is the need for “something more.” The problem is that as with any generation they want to throw the baby out with the bath water by changing too much of what has gone well, instead of continuing to modify.
Yes…last night I made the move from PC to MAC. I am loving it so far. Spent time with my buddy Tony Steward getting it all set up so that we can serve you better through audio and video.
A friend of mine Jim Henderson just posted this posting, “Free Jesus” on his blog, “Conversation on the Edge“. You can also check Jim out at Off the Map.
In 1543 Nicolas Copernicus published his treatise De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium (The Revolution of Celestial Spheres) and ushered into popular discourse the phrase “Copernican Revolution.” This Copernican Revolution pitted one powerful paradigm – it’s all about us, against another – it’s all about something outside of us.
When paradigms collide it can make for lots of excitement and provoke tons of resistance from those holding a vested interest in maintaining the status quo… As Tom Friedman the Pulitzer winning journalist once commented “those with power never think about it but those without power think about it all the time”. The unfortunate truth about history (thus far) is that when it comes to powerful paradigm change, the church has often been on the side of the resisters.
Peter Drucker said, “Every few hundred years in Western society there occurs a sharp transformation. Within a few short decades, society rearranges itself… We are currently living through such a transformation.” Apparently, Drucker believed that we’re currently living through a cultural transformation unlike anything that has happened since the 18th Century. That would include the American Revolution, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the atomic bomb and even the Beatles! What if there’s a Copernican Revolution going on and we don’t “see” it, what if we’re on the wrong side again?
It was great to be back in my worship venue this morning where I’ve worshiped these past couple of years with the Pastor Pat and the Overdrive Venue at Saddleback. Dave Upton, Worship Pastor was bringing it this morning with the band. Thanks Overdrive family for a great worship experience. Chuck Colson was the guest speaker today.
Wished I could take you guys on the road with us this spring. What a kick that would be.
