I caught some flack for saying that, “everyone wants to belong to something, even when they don’t know what it is.” But you know it’s true.
Here is a case in point. How much do you know about the “emo scene” in your area.
Well get to doing your homework. It is an entire subculture in and of itself. Teens and young twenties dying to belong to something so much so they have created their own subculture.
Emo is a somewhat ambiguous, controversial slang term most frequently used to describe a fashion or subculture which is usually defined to have its roots in punk fashion and subculture, as well as some attributes of gothic fashion and subculture.[1][2]
They even have their own grammatical usage. The word emo can be used as either a noun, adjective, or verb .[6][9]
Adjective (1): All my friends are emo.
Adjective (2): I feel emo today.
Noun: That person is such an emo.
There own music, fashion, hair style, personality type, and the list goes on.
Research it yourself and look at what the world is doing to try to belong. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_(slang)

I found it interesting in our resent survey that our first communication question about ones strongest asset of communicating with the community was “oral” or did I? For years I’ve listened to us say that the number one way a person comes to church is through a personal invite. OK…if that is true then why are we not blowing the doors off our churches. Is it the “asks” or the “asker”. Surely it isn’t that hard to ask a friend to come hang with us at our church for an hour or is it? Just thinking out loud.
Of pastors surveyed 78% said that they had determined that oral communication was their strongest asset in communicating to the community.
12% said print
5.5% said broadcast
3.5% said digital
Side note: don’t shy away from digital just because you don’t know how to use it or think it will cost too much. Let us help you leverage digital tools that will work for you.
“make the most of every opportunity”
I wonder what the community would say if I surveyed them about their perception of how you communicate with them.
You know what, I think I’ll do just that. I am going to select several locations around the U.S. and randomly sample them to determine what they think is the churches greatest communication asset to their community.
I will need your help. My plans are to compose a survey by which I’ll ask several of you to help me randomly survey people on the street in your community. We’ll take a broad sample from rural, suburban, and major cities. Let’s see what the community tells us.
Email me at kerry.pastor@gmail.com if you are interested in partnering with us in the upcoming surveys.

The Survey Data has all been posted. Just to recap. We posted an article on www.pastors.com the first week in March 2007 and during the month of March we surveyed 315 Pastors worldwide to see where they are in the areas of communication, connection, consistency, and classification in helping persons move from the “Street to the Seat” in helping them choose Christ and “B.E.L.O.N.G.” to the church family.
Beginning the first week in April we began posting the survey results. As of today all data has been posted using the exact questions that were used in the survey with their answers by percentage.
My goal now is to provide weekly tips, tools, and training if your church needs training in how we can do a better job of, “making the most of every opportunity as we help persons choose Christ and Belong to the church family“.
Praying for you all today! Remember, the best way to keep in touch is to subscribe to the blog so that you receive each new post via your email account. Enter your email address in the space provide on the tool bar to the right of the page and stay connected.
